A stroke, sometimes refered to as a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), cerebrovascular insult(CV), or colloquially brain attack, is the loss of brain function due to a disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. This disturbance is due to either ischemia (lack of blood flow) or haemorrhage. A stroke is a medical emergency and can cause permanent neurological damage or death. Risk factors for stroke include old age, high blood pressure, previous stroke or trnasient ischemic attack, debates, high cholesterol, tobacco smoking and atrial fibrillation.
Western treatment would be treatment in hospitals with thrombolysis, also known as clot buster, and some hemorrhagic strokes benefit from neurosurgery. TCM treatment would be herbal medicines to improve circulation, balance the yin/yang elements ,acupuncture and meridian point massage for very effective results.
Causes of neck pain include abnormalities in the bone or joints, trauma, poor posture, degenerative diseases, tumors and muscle strain.
Western treatment would recommend pain killers, but TCM use acupuncture, meridian massage and herbal medicine to correct this.
A common cause of shoulder pain is soreness of the tendon (a cord that attaches a muscle to a bone) of the rotators cuff (the part of the shoulder that helps circular motion.) Another common cause is soreness of the sbuacromial bursa (a sac of fluid under the highest part of the shoulder.) You might experience soreness ater activities such as painting, lifting,or playing a sport, which require you to lift your arms.
Western treatment would be to use anti inflammatory injection or steroids, while TCM would use herbs with anti inflammatory properties for consumption and external use. An experienced physician could help to reduce the pain by administering acupuncture.
Arthritis means inflammation of one or more joints.Arthritis is frequently accompanied by joint pain.
There are many forms of arthritis, the forms range from those related to wear and tear of cartilage such as osteoarthritis to those associated with inflammation as a result of an overactive immune system such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Western treatment would be to use drugs with anti inflammatory properties, but they come with a lot of side effects.TCM treatment would involve the use of herbal medicine to reduce the pain and reduce the symptoms.
Leg weakness can occur as part of a generalized feeling of weakness all over your body, or it may develop in one or both legs.
True weakness occurs when the muscles lose their strength, but people often perceive that their muscles are weak when they feel ill or tired. In these cases there is not a true loss of muscle function. The sudden onset of muscle weakness can be a sign of stroke, a potentially life-threatening condition in which part of the brain is deprived of oxygen.
Radiculitis, also known as radiating pain, is ultimately a sign that a nerve or nerve root along the spinal column is under pressure from some sort of injury or inflammation.
It is a common symptom of many spinal conditions and manifests itself as pain that seems to travel the length of a nerve—for instance, down an entire arm or leg.
Body parts which are damaged from accidents or recovering from a recent surgery becomes very weak and are prone to further damage if they're not taken care of properly.
Conditioning with proper massage helps with the rehab of the body muscles, regaining original strength and reduce the risk of injuring the same areas again.
Sports injuries result from acute trauma or repetitive stress associated with athletic activities. Sports injuries can affect bones or soft tissue (ligaments, muscles, tendons).
Professional dancers are increasingly recognized as performing athletes, and many of the treatments and preventive measures utilized in sports medicine are now applied to dance-related injuries.
It is also important to remember that many types of injuries that affect athletes may also occur in workers in certain occupations; for example, many people in the building trades develop tennis elbow or golfer's elbow. The principles of sports medicine can be applied in the treatment of most common musculoskeletal injuries.
Muscle/tendon soreness affects virtually everyone, regardless if the patient is a serious athlete or engages in exercise on an intermittent, recreational basis. The widespread nature of muslce soreness is due partly to the various activities that produce it.Muscle soreness is a response to sports, exercise, work travel or daily activities.
Exercise that leads to mscle soreness and pain causes increases in muscle enzymes in the bloodstream, inflammation and structural damage. These coexist with a decrease in the patient's range of motion and strength in the affected areas.
Western treatment would recommend the use of external and internal analgesics and so on. TCM Treatment would use acupuncture, meridian point massage and herbal medicine.
The lower back is an intricate structure of interconnected and overlapping elements, tendons and muscles and other soft tissues, hightly senstive nerves and nerve roots that travel from the lower back down into the legs and feet, small and complex joints, spinal discs with their gelatinous inner cores.
An irritation or problem with any of these structures can cause lower back pain and or pain that radiates or is referred to other parts of the body. Pain from resultant lower back muscle spasms can be severe, and pain from a number of syndromes can become chronic.
Western treatment would be to rest and take pain killers. TCM treatment would invexercise on an involve acupuncture, meridian point massage and herbal medicine.
A stiff neck is typically characterized by soreness and difficulty moving the neck, especially when trying to turn the head to the side.
A stiff neck may also be accompanied by a headache, neck pain, shoulder pain and/or arm pain, and cause the individual to turn the entire body as opposed to the neck when trying to look sideways or backwards.
Frozen shoulder syndrome, or adhesive capsulitis as it’s medically termed, occurs when ligaments around the shoulder joint swell and stiffen to such an extent that normal healing doesn't take place. This makes it difficult to move the shoulder, making everyday activities such as getting dressed or reaching for a cup from a shelf painful. As the condition progresses, the stiffness may continue to the point where range of motion can be severely limited.
With frozen shoulder the surfaces of your shoulder joint are normal and arm motion is limited because the tissues surrounding the joint have become tight, preventing you from moving your arm and shoulder as you usually would. With shoulder arthritis the joint surface is damaged.
Neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, regardless of the young, the elderly can occur in all ages have such pain. Although a variety of reasons, but different reasons for different ages in general. Young muscle fatigue (strain), muscle blood circulation disorders, arthritis, mostly small changes (degeneration, aging) in the elderly cervical, shoulder and other emerging majority age.
However, where there are cervical disc herniation, cervical spondylosis, ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament neck and back pain, cancer and other diseases caused by bone metastasis, over time, there will be severe symptoms of numbness and so on. Thus, the symptoms persist or appear so bad hand, under ataxia awkward situation, must find a specialist consultation, to identify the reasons.
Identify the cause (diagnosis) to determine the appropriate treatment can improve symptoms.
Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis is a condition in which the outer part of the elbow becomes sore and tender. Tennis elbow is an acute or chronic inflammation of the tendons that join the forearm muscles on the outside of the elbow. The forearm muscles and tendons become damaged from overuse-repeating the same motions again and again. This leads to inflammation, pain and tenderness on the outside of the elbow.
Any activity, including playing tennis, which involves the repetitive use of the extensors muscles of the forearm can cause acute or chronic tendonitis of the tendinous insertion of these muscles at the lateral epicondyle of the elbow. The condition is common in carpenters and other laborers who swing a hammer or other tool with the forearm.
Western treatment would be the use of pain killers, surgery and so on, while TCM uses acupuncture, herbal medicines to improve circulation and meridian point massage to eliminate the condition.
A common musculoskeletal injury in which the ligaments of the ankle partially or completely tear due to sudden stretching. This typically occurs when the ankle is suddenly "twisted" in a sports activity or by stepping off an uneven surface.
The pain is initially severe and can be associated with a "popping" sensation. Immediate swelling over the area of injury often occurs as the injured blood vessels leak fluid into the local tissue. Partial tears retain some ankle stability, whereas complete tears lose stability because the strapping ligaments no longer brace the ankle joint.
Heel pain is usually focused on the underside or the back of your heel. If your pain is on the underside of your heel, its likely cause is plantar fasciitis. Pain on the back of your heel, where the Achilles tendon attaches to the heel bone, is Achilles tendinitis.
Although heel pain is rarely a symptom of a serious condition, it can interfere with your normal activities, particularly exercise.
Lumbar (lower back) muscle strains and sprains are the most common causes of low back pain. The back is prone to this strain because of its weight-bearing function and involvement in moving, twisting and bending.
Lumbar muscle strain is caused when muscle fibres are abnormally stretched or torn.
A sprain is a stretching or tearing of ligaments — the tough bands of fibrous tissue that connect two bones together in your joints. The most common location for a sprain is in your ankle.
A strain is a stretching or tearing of muscle or tendon. A tendon is a fibrous cord of tissue that connects muscles to bones.

Influenza, commonly as the flu, is an infectious disease of birds and mammals caused by RNA viruses f the family Orthomyxoviridae, the influenza viruses.
The most common symptoms are chills, fever runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing, weakness/fatigue and general discomfor.Although it is often confused with other influenza like illnesses especially the common cold, influenza is a more severe disease.
Influenza may produce nausea and vomiting, particularly in children, but these symptoms are more common in the unrelated gastroenteritis, which is sometimes inaccurately refered to as “stomach flu” Typically influenza is transmitted through the air by coughs or sneezes.
Fever is one of the most common medical signs and is characterized by an elevation of body temperature above he normal range of 36.5 to 37.5 deg due to an inrease in the temperature regulatory set point. This increase in set point triggers increased muscle tone and chills. As a person's temperature increases, there is in general a feeling of cold despite an increase in body temperature.
Once body temperature has increased to the new set point temperature, there is a feeling of warmth. A fever is usually accomanied by sickness behavior, which consists of lethargy, depression, anorexia, sleepiness, hyperalgesia, and the inability to concentrate.
Western treatment would involve the use of aspirin, paracetamols and so. TCM treatment would be to use herbal medicine to bring down the heat and achieve a proper balance of yin/yang so that the patient does not feel too weak.
A cough is a sudden and often repetitively occurring reflex which helps to clear the large breathing passages from secretions, irritants, foreign particles and microbes.
The cough reflex consists of three phases: an inhalation, a forced exhalation against a closed glottis, and a violent release of air from the lungs following opening of the glottis, usually accompanied by a distinctive sound. Coughing is either voluntary or involuntary.
Treatment should target the cause; for example, smoking cessation or discontinuing ACE inhibitors. Cough suppressants such as codeine or dextromethorphan are frequently prescribed, but have been demonstrated to have little effect. TCM uses herbal medicine to soothe the coughing pain.
Asthma is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by variable and recurring symptoms, reversible airflow obstruction and broncho spasm. Common symptoms include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and shortness of breath.
Western science treatment would involve atibiotics and steroid based medicines, while TCM approach would be to strenghten the lung qi and other weak areas of the body, with the help of acupuncture and other therapies.
Insomnia or sleeplessness, is a sleep disorder in which there is an inability to fall asleep or to stay asleep as long as desired.
Western treatment would be to use sleeping pills, but over extended periods, may lead to substance dependency or addiction. TCM treatment would be to use acupuncture and herbal medicine to balance the body's yin and yang elements.
Dizziness is often caused by illnesses that affect the inner ear, including benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), migraine and inflammation of the inner ear balance apparatus (called vestibular neuritis). Dizziness may also be caused by low blood pressure, some heart problems (such as cardiac arrhythmias), anxiety disorders such as panic attacks or (uncommonly) by hypoglcaemia (low blood sugar)
Western medication would be to use anti nausea medication or migraine prevention medication, while TCM approach would be to strenghten the qi circulation in the body, acupuncture and so on.
The spleen sits under your rib cage in the upper left part of your abdomen toward your back, an organ that is part of the lymph system and works as a drainage network that defends your body against infection.
White blood cells produced in the spleen engulf bacteria, dead tissue, and foreign matter, and also filters blood, removing abnormal blood cells from the bloodstream. The spleen also maintains healthy red and white blood cells and platelets; platelets help your blood clot.
A spleen is normally about the size of your fist. A doctor usually can't feel it during an exam. But diseases can cause it to swell and become many times its normal size. Because the spleen is involved in many functions, many conditions may affect it.
Constipation refers to bowel movements that are infrequent or hard to pass. Constipation is a common cause of painful defecation. Severe constipation includes obstipation (failure to pass stools or gas) and fecal impaction, which can progress o bowel obstruction and become life threatening.
Western treatments involve the use of laxatives and so on. TCM treatment would be to use herbal medicines, acupuncture and meridian massage etc.

When your kidneys are damaged, waste products and fluid can build up in your body, causing swelling in your ankles, vomiting, weakness, poor sleep, and shortness of breath. If you don't treat them, diseased kidneys may eventually stop working completely. Loss of kidney function is a serious -- and potentially fatal -- condition.
Thrombocytopenia is a condition in which you have a low blood platelet count. Platelets (thrombocytes) are colorless blood cells that help blood clot. Platelets stop bleeding by clumping and forming plugs in blood vessel injuries.
Thrombocytopenia often occurs as a result of a separate disorder, such as leukemia or an immune system problem. Or it can be a side effect of taking certain medications. It affects both children and adults.
Thrombocytopenia may be mild and cause few signs or symptoms. In rare cases, the number of platelets may be so low that dangerous internal bleeding occurs. Treatment options are available.
Diabetes Mellitus (DM), commonly referred to as diabetes, is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period.
Symptoms of high blood sugar include frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased hunger. If left untreated, diabetes can cause many complications. Acute complications include diabetic ketoacidosis and nonketotic hyperosmolar coma. Serious long-term complications include cardiovascular disease, stroke, chronic kidney failure, foot ulcers, and damage to the eyes.
Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by abnormally increased sweating, in excess of that required for regulation of body temperature. It can be associated with a significant quality of life burden from a psychological, emotional, and social perspective. It has been called by some 'the silent handicap'.
Hyperhidrosis can either be generalized, or localized to specific parts of the body. Hands, feet, armpits, and the groin area are among the most active regions of perspiration due to the high number of sweat glands in these areas.

Our immune system is how we fight off infections, germs and cancer. Sometimes the immune system does not work properly, as with immunodeficiency disorders. These people are extremely susceptible to infection and cancer.
Lipid is the scientific term for fats in the blood. At proper levels, lipids perform important functions in your body, but can cause health problems if they are present in excess.
High lipid levels can speed up a process called atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. Your arteries are normally smooth and unobstructed on the inside, but as you age, a sticky substance called plaque forms in the walls of your arteries. Plaque is made of lipids and other materials circulating in your blood. As more plaque builds up, your arteries can narrow and stiffen. Eventually, enough plaque may build up to reduce blood flow through your arteries.

he birth of a baby can trigger a jumble of powerful emotions, from excitement and joy to fear and anxiety. But it can also result in something you might not expect — depression.
Many new moms experience the "postpartum baby blues" after childbirth, which commonly include mood swings, crying spells, anxiety and difficulty sleeping. Baby blues typically begin within the first two to three days after delivery, and may last for up to two weeks.
But some new moms experience a more severe, long-lasting form of depression known as postpartum depression. Rarely, an extreme mood disorder called postpartum psychosis also may develop after childbirth.
Postpartum depression isn't a character flaw or a weakness. Sometimes it's simply a complication of giving birth. If you have postpartum depression, prompt treatment can help you manage your symptoms — and enjoy your baby.

Often they weigh themselves frequently, eat only small amounts, and only eat certain foods. Some will exercise excessively, force themselves to vomit, or use laxatives to produce weight loss.
Complications may include osteoporosis, infertility and heart damage, among others. Women will often stop having menstrual periods.
You know it when you feel it: that full, uncomfortable sensation in your belly during or after a meal. You might have burning or pain in the upper part of your stomach, too. It’s indigestion, also called dyspepsia.
Indigestion is often a sign of an underlying problem, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, or gallbladder disease, rather than a condition of its own. Any treatment you get will depend on what the cause is. But there are ways you can feel better or avoid getting it.
Sinus infections are caused by infecions from a pathogenic microorganism (virus, bacterium or fungus) which grows within a sinus and causes intermittent blockage of the sinus osmium. Sinus infections are not contagious but arise from mainly viruses and bacteria that by chance, support their proliferation because of minor and rarely major anoralities in the person's sinus tissue. Sinusitis is inflammation of the air cavities within the air passages of the nose. Sinusitis can be caused by infection, but also can be caused by allergies and chemical or particulate irritation of sinuses.
Western treatment would be prescription drugs like Tylenol decongestants and mucolytics, nasal irrigation and so on.TCM would regard this as an immunity problem, so herbal medicine would be prescribed and acupuncture would be effective.

Aphthous stomatitis (also know as mouth ulcer) is a common condition characterized by the repeated formation of benign and non-contagious mouth ulcers (aphthae) in otherwise healthy individuals.
The cause is not completely understood, but involves a T cell-mediated immune response triggered by a variety of factors. Different individuals have different triggers, which may include nutritional deficiencies, local trauma, stress, hormonal influences, allergies, genetic predisposition or other factors.
The condition is very common, affecting about 20% of the general population to some degree. The onset is often during childhood or adolescence, and the condition usually lasts for several years before gradually disappearing
Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease (HFMD) is present in Singapore all year round, and the seasonal outbreaks occurring in childcare centres, kindergartens, and schools are generally mild. However, a certain type of the virus, EV71, can give rise to serious complications. These complications, usually involving the heart and nervous system, have been known to cause fatality. HFMD is an infectious disease that is notifiable by law since October 2000.
HFMD is spread from person to person by direct contact with the nasal discharge, saliva, faeces and fluid from the rash of an infected person. Both adults and children can be affected, but young children below five years of age are particularly susceptible

Chronic nonbacterial prostatitis or chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is a pelvic pain condition in men and should be distinguished from other forms of prostatitis such as chronic bacterial prostatitis and acute bacterial prostration. This condition was formerly known as Prostatodynia (painful prostate) Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is characterised by pelvic or perineal pain without evidence of urinary tract infection, lasting longer than 3 months as the key symptom.
Symptoms may wax and wane. Pain can range from mild to debilitating. Pain may radiate to the back and rectum, making sitting uncomfortable. Pain can be present in the perineum, testicles, tip of penis, pubic or bladder area. Dysuria, arthralgia, myalgia, unexplained fatigue, abdominal pain, constant burning pain in the penis, and frequency may all be present. Frequent urination and increased urgency may suggest interstitial cystitis (inflammation centred in bladder rather than prostate). Post ejaculatory pain, mediated by nerves and muscles, is a hallark of the condition and serves to distinguish CP/CPPS patients from men with BPH or normal men. Some patients report low libido, sexual dysfunction and erectile difficulties.
Western science may not offer any direct treatment, TCM , with the help of herbal medicines to balance the body's qi and ying/yang elements can eliminate the problem.

There is no uniform cut-off defining "premature", but a consensus of experts at the International Society for Sexual Medicine endorsed a definition including "ejaculation which always or nearly always occurs prior to or within about one minute".

A relatively new method of stimulation, laser acupuncture uses low-energy laser beams—instead of traditional acupuncture needles—to influence acupuncture points. The healing power of lasers was discovered over 40 years ago. During an experiment to determine if laser-light caused cancer in 1967, Endre Mester exposed the shaved backs of several mice to low-powered red laser light. Not only did the laser treatments not cause cancer, he noted that the hair grew back much quicker on the treated mice than on the un-treated control group!
Over the years, this discovery has led to a field of study called “photo-biomodulation”. Lasers are being used to accelerate healing, reduce inflammation, and reduce pain.
